Sun Joe has more ratings on this model than the rest of this shelf combined. For a 12-amp machine at $160, that is its strongest argument.
What the money buys now
The Westinghouse, VEVOR and BILT HARD are cheaper, with 16-inch paths and 15-amp motors. The Sun Joe’s width and bag are small by comparison.
Before you start
Unplug the machine before changing a roller or clearing the tines, and use an outdoor-rated cord on a GFCI-protected outlet. Mark sprinkler heads and buried lines first: tines at working depth will catch them.

What this machine usually gets asked
What is the difference between dethatching and scarifying?
A dethatcher combs dead material out with spring tines. A scarifier uses fixed blades that slice into the surface. The WEN and Westinghouse machines here include both rollers.
Is the AJ801E a two-roller machine?
The title says dethatcher and scarifier, but the listing we read describes spring steel tines only. If you want separate blades, look at the AJ805E or the 16-inch machines.
Our score
8.0/ 10
The safe, proven choice for small lawns, though the newer 16-inch machines give more for the same money.
This one and its buyer, among lawn equipment
A small lawn and a buyer who values a long record over the most capacity.
