PowerSmart EasyCut 18 in Push Mower review

An 18-inch steel-deck push mower with side discharge only. It is narrow enough for tight yards, but heavier than the wider SENIX push model.

Small deck, full weight

At 18 inches this is the narrowest gas mower on the shelf, but the steel deck keeps it at 58.4 pounds. That is 19 pounds more than the SENIX 20-inch. The gain is width at the gate, not an easier push.

One way out for the grass

Clippings leave through the side chute and nowhere else. PowerSmart says this keeps it moving through tall, thick grass, which is the usual case for side discharge. There is no mulch plug and no bag to fit.

Starting and handling

The 144cc OHV engine has both an auto choke and a primer. Rear wheels are 8 inches and front wheels 7 inches.

Before you reach under it

Stop the engine and let the blade come to a complete stop before you clear the chute or reach under the deck. Fuel and oil handling is covered in the maker’s manual, and that manual outranks this page.

What this machine usually gets asked

Can it mulch or bag?

No. The title and bullets describe side discharge only. If you want clippings collected or chopped, look at the 21-inch PowerSmart or the BILT HARD.

Is it 5 or 6 height positions?

The title and bullets say 5, and the details table says 6. Both give a range of 1.5 to 3.9 inches.

Our score

7.8/ 10

Fine for tight spaces. Most small yards are better served by the lighter SENIX, unless the steel deck is what you want.

This one and its buyer, among lawn equipment

A small yard with tight gates or corners where an 18-inch deck fits and a 21-inch does not.
