What this length is for
Ten metres.
A small garden’s boundary loop is fifty metres and a normal one is a hundred and
fifty. Ten metres is not an installation and the listing does not pretend
otherwise.
It is a repair, and repairs are the reason this shelf exists as much as new
installations are. A spade through the wire in spring, a fork, an edging iron, a
fence post: the loop goes open circuit, the robot stops, and what is needed is
a metre or two of wire and two connectors — not two hundred metres on a reel.

An aluminium core with a copper skin, tinned. It is what most of this shelf is
made of, and the two things to know about it are that it is cheaper and lighter
than solid copper, and that it is less conductive at the same diameter.
On a long perimeter that shows up as a weaker signal at the far side of the
loop. On ten metres spliced into an existing run it is irrelevant.
What the box does not hold
Connectors. A repair needs two, and they must be the gel-filled waterproof kind
rather than a twist and tape — a twisted joint in wet ground corrodes, the
resistance climbs, and the fault comes back next season looking like a failing
robot.

The price per metre
The highest here by a factor of several, which is what a short length always
costs. That is the correct trade for a repair and the wrong one for an
installation.
