Hose reels
Amazon Basics JC761
The only cart here that arrives with a hose — and the only listing whose five feature lines say nothing measurable.
The one thing that makes it worth listing
It comes with a hose.
Three products on this shelf are wall boxes with a hose sealed inside. Two are
carts sold bare. One is a stand sold bare.
This is the only cart that arrives complete: a reel and 30 metres of hose,
one box, one price.
For somebody starting from nothing — a new garden, a first tap — that is a real
argument, and it is stronger than the listing itself makes it.
The five feature lines
In full: the delivery contains one cart and a 30 m hose; assembly is quick and
easy; it is made of high-quality plastic; the design is stable and
hard-wearing; it is light in weight and easy to use.
That is a hose length and four adjectives.
No capacity. No dimensions. No weight, despite “light weight” being one of the
claims. No wheel size. No description of the crank, the hose guide, or whether
either exists. Nothing about the hose beyond its length — no bore, no layers,
no pressure.
What that leaves this page able to say
Very little about the product, and something about the shelf.
Two other carts here publish a 60 m capacity, and one of those publishes its
dimensions, its wheel size and its wheel material. A stand here publishes its
capacity three times over, once per hose bore. A wall box publishes its hose’s
burst pressure.
Against that, four adjectives is the thinnest description of a cart on this
shelf, and it costs more than the cart that publishes the most.
The difference is the hose, and how much that is worth depends on a hose
nobody has described.
Plastic
Named, and it is the one construction statement in the listing.
It is not automatically a weakness. Plastic cannot rust, and rust at the chips
in a powder-coated steel frame is what eventually takes a metal cart apart
outdoors.
It is a weakness if it is thin. A hose cart takes its load through the frame —
every pull on the hose tries to fold it — and stiffness is what stops it
racking. A metal frame is stiff at any sensible thickness; a plastic one
depends entirely on how it is moulded.
Nothing published here says how thick it is or what it weighs, so this page
records the material and not a verdict on it.
30 metres on a cart
The right way round, at least.
A wall box with 30 metres has a 30 metre radius from one wall. A cart with 30
metres has 30 metres from wherever you push it, which in a long garden is a
different quantity entirely.
That is the genuine case for a cart over a box, and it applies to this one as
much as to the better-specified ones beside it.
Availability
From 80 € to 95 €, that being the spread across the German, French, Italian and Spanish Amazon stores on the day of the survey.
Beyond the euro zone, the British Amazon store prices it in its own currency, which the spread above sets aside.
Listed and unsold: the American Amazon catalogue holds the reference with nobody behind it.
