The motor spins fast and weakly. The roller has to turn slowly and with enormous force — that is how crushing works. The reduction between the two is a gear train under continuous heavy load, and it is the part that fails first on a cheap machine of this type.

Because a roller shredder needs torque, not speed. The motor turns fast and the roller must turn slowly with enormous force, and everything between them is the gearbox. A three-stage planetary train is a serious reduction, and it is the component that fails on cheap roller machines.
