What the maker prints on its own page
Guaranteed compatible with robots from all manufacturers, and eight brands are
named. Easy to lay thanks to the spool, and the maker states the wire is equally
suited to laying above or below ground. Better conductivity: developed to send
an extra strong signal so the robot does not leave the intended area. The
weatherproof PVC insulation is described as extra tear-resistant and durable.
The maker recommends its own ground anchors for fixing the wire, stating that
the better the wire is fixed, the less it is liable to slipping, cable breaks or
damage from the robot.
Above or below
Stated, and worth repeating.
Pegged on the surface, the wire disappears into the sward within a few
weeks and can be lifted and moved in minutes. That matters more than anyone
expects, because the first layout is always wrong somewhere — a bed corner the
machine clips, a passage it cannot find.
Buried a few centimetres down, it is out of reach of a fork, a boot and an
edging iron, and it is permanent in the sense that nobody ever corrects it.
The right answer is to peg it for a season and bury it once the layout has
settled.
The advice about fixing
The last feature line is the seller recommending its own pegs, and the argument
it makes is correct: a wire that is not properly fixed lifts, and a lifted wire
is caught by a mower, a rake or a foot.
Cable breaks are the failure mode of this whole shelf. Fixing is the prevention.
What goes unpublished
The conductor material — the one thing every other listing here names.
TCCA, tinned copper, galvanised copper: six of the seven say which. This one
gives a diameter and an insulation material and leaves the metal unstated,
which on a component whose only job is conduction is the odd omission.
