That is a factor of more than four between the ends of one shelf, and material explains most of it.

Why ten is the right number to buy

Hose connectors are not bought one at a time.

A garden has a tap, a hose, a gun, a sprinkler, a second hose, a coupler between them, and a watering wand. Every one of those junctions is a fitting, and they all fail within a season or two of each other because they were all bought together and all sat in the same sunlight.

Refitting them individually costs more per piece and takes six separate trips. A box of ten is how this job is actually done.

The union nut

The one specific engineering claim in the listing, mentioned twice: a specially shaped union nut for very high hose grip.

That is the correct thing to emphasise, because it is where these fittings fail.

A hose connector works by pushing the hose over a barbed tail and clamping it with a threaded collar. Under pressure, the hose tries to walk off the barb. The barb resists it; the collar holds the barb’s grip; and the collar is the plastic part carrying all of it.

A nut that is too thin cracks. A nut with a shallow taper lets the hose creep. A well-shaped one does neither, and it is worth advertising.

Plastic, and what that means over time

Named as robust and rust-resistant, and both are true — plastic cannot rust.

What it does instead is degrade in ultraviolet light. A connector on a hose left on a lawn all summer goes chalky on the surface within a season and brittle within two or three, and then cracks at the collar, usually while being twisted off.

Brass does not do this at all. Two products on this shelf are brass and one is copper, and they cost between two and four times as much per fitting.

For a hose kept on a reel in a shed, plastic lasts a long time. For a hose that lives on the grass, this is a consumable, and buying ten at a time is a reasonable response to that.

Of what mix, the listing does not say. It mentions connectors, quick couplings and a tap adapter across its five lines without giving a breakdown.

That matters. A set of ten identical halves joins nothing — a connection needs a male and a female, and a garden needs tap adapters as well as hose ends.

More than 1.6× the cheapest country at the Italian and Spanish Amazon stores; a gap of that size normally means forwarded stock rather than a seller on the ground, so the spread above leaves it out.
