That is the only large set on this shelf that says what is in it, and it turns
a quantity into a kit.
The distinction is not pedantic. A hose connection needs matching halves — a
connector on the hose, a coupling to join to. And the hose has to start
somewhere, which means a tap adapter, and a set without one leaves the tap
unusable.
Ten, five and five is a coherent answer to a whole garden: several hose ends,
several junctions, and enough tap adapters for every tap in the place plus
spares.
Under 80 cents a fitting
About 0.75 € per piece at the German price recorded here — the lowest on
this shelf.
The range across this family runs to about 3.25 € per piece for a
three-part branded set.
A factor of more than four, and both ends are defensible: one is a consumable
bought by the bag, the other is a reference fitting bought for one joint.
ABS and TPR, both named
More material detail than any other plastic product on this shelf.
ABS for the body — a rigid engineering plastic, stiff enough to carry the
thread loads and impact-resistant enough to survive being dropped on paving.
TPR for the grip surfaces — a soft thermoplastic rubber, which is what
makes a fitting turnable with wet hands.
That two-material moulding is the same idea a branded set on this shelf charges
four times as much for, and the fact that the compounds are named at all is
unusual here: one listing spends a full paragraph praising its material without
saying what it is.
The spiral connection
The listing’s own description of the mechanism: the hose pushes in, and turning
the spiral connection fixes it.
That is the standard barb-and-collar arrangement — the hose goes over a tail
and a threaded collar clamps it — and it is the part that decides whether a
fitting holds pressure.
The claim made for it is a secure, tight seal that prevents slipping and leaks.
It is the correct claim to make, and it is asserted rather than measured.
One bore only
1/2 inch, throughout.
That covers most garden hose sold and it covers nothing else. A branded set on
this shelf fits both 13 mm and 15 mm hose from the same part; this does not,
and 3/4 inch hose — which this site’s hose shelf carries — needs different
fittings entirely.
And the lifetime, stated plainly
These are plastic fittings and they will not last as long as the brass ones on
this shelf.
UV is what does it: a connector left on a hose in the sun goes chalky within a
season and brittle within two or three, and then cracks at the collar.
At 75 cents apiece that is a manageable outcome, and it is the honest shape of
the deal — twenty cheap fittings replaced periodically, against two or three
expensive ones that do not need replacing.
Which is better depends entirely on whether your hose lives on a reel or on the
lawn.
