That is normally a disadvantage and here it is a reason to buy.
A lawn roller is only easy on an open rectangle. Real gardens have a tree in
the middle, a bed along one side, a path, and a corner behind the shed. A 60 cm
drum needs room to come round; a 42 cm drum turns inside it, fits between beds,
and reaches the places the wide ones have to be lifted into.
The price is passes: 42 cm over the same lawn is 43 % more lengths than 60
cm. On a small plot that is a few extra minutes. On a large one it is the wrong
tool.
Named as metal, which matters more than it sounds.
A scraper rides against the drum continuously, under the drum’s own weight, and
a plastic blade wears a groove into itself within a season and then stops
touching. Steel does not.
Four listings on this shelf mention a scraper at all. This is the only one that
says what it is made of.
Powder-coated steel
The same coating as most of this shelf, and the maker’s word for it is
“maintenance-free”.
That is fair as far as it goes. Powder coat is a thick, baked paint film; it
does not need oiling and it does not need repainting.
It is also not galvanising. Zinc corrodes in place of the steel beneath it and
keeps protecting a scratch; paint does not. A roller is dragged over grit,
knocked against stone edging, and stored in a shed — so chips happen, and a
chip is bare steel.
Keeping it under cover, and dry inside if it is filled with water, is what
“maintenance-free” actually requires.
The two numbers this listing does not give
No capacity. No weight, empty or filled.
Those are precisely what describe a roller’s effect on the ground, and three
other products on this shelf publish enough to be compared on kilograms per
centimetre of width. This one cannot be.
The drum dimensions do not substitute: internal volume and fill level are not
the same as external width and diameter, and this page does not convert one
into the other.
